In 2005, the leadership team at Hancock Regional Hospital saw an opportunity to expand their commitment to community care when a local Home Medical Equipment company, formerly known as Royal Med, became available for purchase. With Home Health and Hospice services already established since 1983, adding medical equipment services was a natural next step in supporting patients through every stage of their care journey.
Starting as a small, two-person operation in a storage closet within the hospital, the team served a 30-mile radius with dedication and heart. Today, that operation has grown into a full brick-and-mortar location in Greenfield, with regular storefront hours and a service area that now extends up to 90 miles.
With this growth came the ability to serve not just Hancock County, but also the surrounding counties of Indianapolis, as well as partnerships with multiple hospitals in the region. As a result, Hancock Regional Home Medical officially became part of the Suburban Health at Home family, rebranding as Suburban Home Medical Equipment.
At Suburban Home Medical Equipment, we are committed to providing professional, compassionate service and quality products to every person we serve. Our mission is to support patients and families with the equipment they need, delivered with trust, kindness, and a personal touch that reflects our values and our roots.
Home Medical Equipment services are provided within one day of referral based upon physician's order, patient/client's need or preference. Based upon the admission criteria, each patient/client is assessed for appropriateness of referral and services. Documentation of medical necessity is required for Medicare, Medicaid and third-party payers.
Home Medical Equipment services are composed of trained staff and clinical technicians. Each position is defined by a job description that sets out specific performance criteria. The competence of the technical staff, and all associates, is evaluated at least annually through competency-based evaluation processes and the performance evaluation system. The supervisor of direct care/service personnel observed and evaluated during direct client/patient care annually and assigned job duties are assessed to ensure that quality care and service is being provided. This allows for additional teaching opportunities. Specific evaluation criteria are based on identification of high risk, high volume, and problem prone areas.
The Home Medical Team sets patient/client goals based on the physician order, the home assessment and in collaboration with the patient/client and/or family/caregiver. The degree of achievement of patient goals is measured through various outcome measurements. These findings are part of the department's plan for continuous quality/performance improvement. Patients'/clients' perception of satisfaction with services provided are measured through an ongoing system and are also included in the department's plan for continuous quality/performance improvement.
We are proud to support your Home Medical Equipment needs with dependable service and compassionate care—our mission is to ensure patients and families have the tools they need to live safely and comfortably at home.
